The Spectacles pop-up store debuted as the 10th Snapbot ‘drop’ over the weekend of Thanksgiving. As my passion project, the build required a weekly redeye visit (LAX > LGA) to oversee the design and construction every Wednesday for four months prior to opening. This $10 million pop-up installation was designed and renovated in the former Playboy penthouse building overlooking the famous Fifth Avenue ‘Glass Box’ Apple Store outside of Central Park. It’s midnight reveal drew hundreds of customers which required the NYPD to oversee lines of people that wrapped around the entire block on Madison Ave for weeks. The following year we launched a flagship store near the Snapchat HQ in Venice, California.
“Holy shit. What was here yesterday?”
That’s all I could think about as I approached the corner of 59th and Fifth Ave. There is an interesting, exciting interplay between the iconic Apple Cube, and the taller, more in-your-face cheeky Spectacles icon.
